Disney & Sony Deal

I think I speak for all comic book fans out there when I say the day it was announced that Spidey would be joining the MCU, we were all jumping for joy. Just the thought of the webhead interacting with Tony Stark and the rest of the Avengers was without a doubt a dream come true. However as I’m sure you’ve heard, that dream could well be coming to an end sooner than we expected.

I’d like to point out that it’s still early days as I write this and for all I know everything I’m about to say will be irrelevant soon enough. Earlier this week Disney and Sony sat down to negotiate a new sharing deal for Spider-man, as the old deal was coming to an end. All seems good right? Well not so much… the talks broke down and both sides left without a deal being signed. Now don’t start ripping your hair out straight away, there’s a good chance that they’ll come to a deal and I hope they do but if they don’t it’ll mean many changes will come for us fans. First of all, it would mean that any future Sony made Spider-man movies starring Tom Holland cannot make mention of anything MCU related. So after all that, all those incredible things Peter Parker went through with his fellow Avengers, he can’t speak a word of it. No Tony Stark, no German airport battle, no Endgame, no nothing. Now that just sucks! I’m not saying Sony Spider-man films can’t be good, they well could be but taking Spider-man out of the MCU now, all the set up for him to be Tony Stark’s successor… all for nothing.

I don’t mean to put all the blame on either side and I don’t want to name names but from what I’ve heard, one side wanted more money now that the Spider-man movies have become so successful. The other turned them down flat and after a few other offers went nowhere they both walked away from the table. I do dearly hope they both return to that table and with all the online pressure, they find a way to keep them (and the fans) happy. Like I said, this could all change anytime so my advice is to keep a close eye online for any updates.

My Book Series

As some of you may know, I’m an author. I have a series of supernatural drama novels, the story will be split into a trilogy of books. The first and second installments have been published and are available now. If you’re interested in fantasy-sci-fi mixed with horror, thriller, mystery, romance and a little comedy then this story is for you.

The “Nature vs. Nurture” series is my series of novels telling the story of Alex Kane. He young, handsome & successful man living happily in Chicago Illinois, he has a great life, loving family, good friends and a job in the family business. He’s a polite, kind, and generous man thanks to the good morals taught to him by his family growing up. Alex mainly splits his time between working, socialising and doing volunteer work at Sacred Island General Hospital where his close friend and secret crush Nurse Jessica Whitfield works. All his life people have just been drawn to Alex (Especially the ladies), However there is something he doesn’t know about himself, something his loved ones have kept from him his whole life. Alex has always felt different to other people, like there’s something seperating him from them and he has no idea just how right he is.

A series of tragic events causes Alex’s life to go downhill, darkness begins to overwhelm him and through this he finally learns the truth about himself. He learns the shocking and terrifying truth that he is in fact… The son of the Devil. Many years ago his mother was tricked into agreeing to bare the child of Lucifer and ever since the whole family swore to keep it a secret and to raise Alex to have good morals and to be a good man. Now the truth is out, Alex struggles to come to terms with this and keep his grip on reality. Anger getting the better of him, Alex’s mind becomes warped and he begins walking a dark, dangerous path that could see the end of life on Earth as we know it. Alex’s family and friends must come together and help Alex before it’s too late for him and for the world.

The story mainly revolves around the concepts of identity and morality. It dares to question what is right and what is wrong, are things as they seem or is everything not so black & white? In the end what makes us who we are? Is it what we are born with, what’s in our blood or is it the enviroment we live in and what we are taught to believe? The “Nature vs. Nurture” series is without a doubt the most stressful thing I’ve ever done but also the greatest thing. I’m very proud of my story and I very much hope that you will read and enjoy it, if you do please feel free to leave a like and/or comment telling me your thoughts. If you have any questions about the series, please feel free to contact me and I’ll do my best to answer them thank you.

My Thoughts on Remakes & Reboots

Hollywood seems to have a obsession with taking old Movies and TV shows and reviving them, (Some might think they’ve run out of original ideas.) Now remaking something or rebooting it for modern times, isn’t inherently a bad idea. There have been many remakes & reboots that have been equal in quality (Or even better.) to the original. However, the path of remakes is a dangerous one, so easily it can go wrong. Just one wrong move, one bad decision and the whole thing can crash and burn.

I would say the one of the biggest problems with remakes is when the studio behind them care more about money than the quality of the project itself. They rely on the brand name of the project and know it’ll draw in the fans, so they just throw together any random junk they’ve got and release it. I’ve never understood why studios think this is a good idea, they must know if the projects rubbish then it’ll just anger fans, they’ll lose trust and faith in the studio and won’t watch any future projects they release. What makes a good remake? Let me tell you, a remake is done right when the people in charge of making it, directors, writers, producers etc… love the source material. Of course the ideal would be for the same people who made the original to come back for the remake, but this can’t always happen. Next best is bringing on board talented people who watched and loved the original. This will sound cheesy and mushy but it’s true, love always makes things better. If they love what they’re doing, they put passion into it and it definately comes through in the final version. Plus if they’re fans they know small details any other filmmaker wouldn’t know.

I didn’t really want to name names but I have to make an exception for this one, if you’re looking for an example of a reboot done wrong, look no further than “Fantastic Four” or “FANT4STIC” (2015). Excuse my language but that movie is utter dogshit. It couldn’t have been worse and the reason is obvious, the only reason this movie exists is so Fox didn’t lose the Fantastic Four rights to Marvel. Which is kind of pointless since Marvel would get the rights back a few years later. This film had no love put into it at all and it shows, they just rushed through everything to get it out in time and inevitably it turned into a clusterfuck (Again excuse the language.)

I don’t want this to turn into a rant (That’ll be another post.) I don’t want you to give up on remakes, they can be very good indeed. Please I urge you to look around, there are plenty of high quality remakes & reboots out there and make sure you give new ones a chance. As the old saying goes, don’t judge a book by its cover.

My Top 5 Worst Movies

I’ve done my favourite movies, so it only makes sense to do my least favourite. You may be thinking “Why didn’t he call it, My Top 5 Hated Movies?”, well I didn’t call it that because I don’t hate all the movies on this list. I do hate a couple of them but hate is a strong word, the others I just deeply dislike. All movies on this list are terrible but some people get a kick out of that, so if you want to watch them… best of luck to you.

Holmes & Watson (2018)

This movie is simply an ABOMINATION! Sorry but I had to shout that, that’s just how angry this movie makes me feel. Whoever thought turning the two greatest detectives in literature into a pair of brainless, blundering, annoying, useless morons deserves a swift kick to the face. This so-called comedy is not funny in the slightest, instead of making you laugh, every joke gets you more and more irritated. Now look, I like Will Ferrell as much as anyone but he is clearly the worst person on Earth to play Sherlock Holmes. Actually correction second worst (After Charlie Sheen.) I don’t want to keep on, if I do I’ll never stop. Don’t watch this film, it’s nothing but an insult to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if Arthur Conan Doyle rose from the grave just to beat the f**k out of the people that made this film.

Warm Bodies (2013)

Another film that’s just one giant middle finger. Making Vampires romantic and mushy was bad enough, then they went and did it to Zombies. WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING! If any classic monster isn’t meant to be sympathetic, it’s the Zombie. Zombies are rotting corpses, not exactly boyfriend/girlfriend material in my opinion. By making this movie, all the people involved basically lined up all fans of the Zombie genre and let rip a massive fart on them. Zombies coming back to life through the power of love… REALLY? SERIOUSLY?! ZOMBIES DON’T WORK THAT WAY IDIOTS! Sorry for all the shouting but as a Zombie fan, I did just get farted on, that’s enough to get on anyones nerves. To all Zombie fans out there, I know how you feel but we just have to pretend this one never happened.

Jack and Jill (2011)

Now I really don’t want to hate on Adam Sandler, I genuinely like him and enjoy a lot of his movies. I also don’t think his recent movies deserve all the hate they get… except this one, this one sucks balls. The concept itself has a bit of potential but the first mistake was having Sandler play both siblings. When I look at him as Jill, all that goes through my mind is “Who on Earth thought that looked good?”. How hard would it have been to find a good comedic female actor that looked a bit like Adam Sandler? Surely it couldn’t have been that difficult. The next big problem is the jokes, they’re just not good, Jack comes across dull and a bit mean and Jill… Well Jill’s just annoying as holy hell. Not annoying in a “Oh shes meant to be annoying that’s the joke way.” no in a she’s just annoying way. Plus this film has some big names in it, Katie Holmes and Al Pacino, WHAT! They’re successful actors, what are they doing in this? Surely when they read the script, they must have known it was terrible? I suspect money was a big deciding factor in this case. Overall “Jack and Jill” is a low point in Sandler’s career and one I suspect he’d like to forget.

The Happening (2008)

Probably not a shock this being on my list, since it’s on most peoples lists. If I had to decribe this movie in one word it would have to be… BORING! It is one of the most dull films I’ve ever seen, I know they were trying for silent suspense but it just ended up being boring. For some reason the main actors (Despite being good actors.) give terrible performances, I honestly think I could do better. Plus the writing isn’t exactly the best, some decisions the characters make have you going… WHAT?! why would they do that?! To top it off, the cause of the strange activity, spoiler warning… Angry plants. Yeah you heard me right, really pissed off plants. I get what they were going for, a nod to Global Warming and Climate Change but angry plants is just silly. It’s something you’d expect to find in a cheap B movie, not a film by the man who wrote & directed “The Sixth Sense”. I don’t know how Shyamalan let this happen, he’s made so much better movies before and since this. My advice, go watch one of those instead.

Son of the Mask (2005)

Ok now obviously I don’t like this movie (It wouldn’t be on this list if I did.) but I don’t think it’s as bad as people say. I think it all depends whether or not you’ve seen “The Mask”, if you haven’t seen it, then I think it’s a decent-ish film that you can sit, watch and zone out to. However if you have seen “The Mask” then it feels like someones spitting in your face. Comparing these two movies is like night and day, “The Mask” is a modern classic, with great physical comedy and special effects that have stood the test of time. While “Son of the Mask” however, they simply tried to clone “The Mask” and somewhere along the way it went very wrong. Some parts they 100% stole from “The Mask” and some parts of the plot they just completely ignored, such as how the mask works in the original movie. If I were you, I’d skip this one but hey do what you want, I’m not your mother.

Of course this easily could have been a top ten 10 list, or even a top 20 list but I got so pissed off thinking about these movies, I think I’ll just leave it at five. If you enjoyed this post, please leave a like and/or comment.

My Top 10 Favourite Movies

Hi readers! I realise that my last couple posts were quite serious and sad, so I thought it was time for a bit of fun. I’ve already done my favourtite TV shows, so here are my top 10 favourite movies of all time, of course this list may change over time and if so, I’ll update it ENJOY!

Logan (2017)

I know what you’re thinking, “Oh you’re only saying it’s your number one favourite because it’s modern.” I can see your point but that’s simply not true. After seeing this movie, I remember walking out of the cinema and thinking to myself “Wow! That was amazing, I think that might be the best film I’ve seen in a long time.” and I was right. This film really does have it all, action, great storytelling, strong emotion and fantastic performances from the actors. Each of the three main characters truly gave it their all, of course Hugh Jackman and Sir Patrick Stewart did a wonderful job but I would like point out the performance from Dafne Keen aka Laura/X-23. Her performance was outstanding, for such a young girl to be so believable and get across exactly what she’s feeling, all without even speaking for half the movie, well that really is great acting. Other than the performaces, The story itself is wondeful, it was so perfect for Hugh Jackman’s farewell as Wolverine. It wraps up his and other characters stories so well, also from interviews I’ve seen, this movie was a lobour of love by the cast and crew. Since it was an end of an era the main cast and director put so much passion into making it for themselves and the fans and it definately comes through in the end. If you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

This may seem a strange one to be so high up on this list but please let me explain. I’ve always loved the Harry Potter movies, I did grow up with them after all. Besides that I like the change in tone from the first two movies, “Prisoner of Azkaban” definately has a much darker tone and as you may be able to tell from earlier posts, that’s my style. Another change I like is the story of the third installment in the franchise, this is the only entry that doesn’t feature Voldermort as the main villain. Some may not like that but I do, it’s a nice breather from the wider story. Replacing Voldermort, the Dementors are a great villain/monster. They represent death and as you’ll all know death is the greatest fear of all. Also the main actors at this point, I think had began to relax into their characters, having played them twice before. Another thing I enjoy about this movie is the time travel element (I like pretty much anything with time travel.) I know some fans find the time turners annoying but I think it works well in this case. They seed the time travel element all through the movie but the audience doesn’t realise it until near the end. I remember being a thirteen yesr old and loving this film (I may have had a crush on Emma Watson at the time… and still do, but that doesn’t make me biased I swear!) All jokes aside, this is simply a good film that I really ejoyed when it came out and still enjoy to this day.

Back to the Future (1985)

This trilogy is sacred to the sci-fi fan community and for many good reasons. Although I appreciate parts two & three as much as anyone else, I’d have to say the first movie is my favourite. Although it does make mistakes when it comes to time travel logic, I forgive that because it really tries and is just so much fun. I’m not really sure exactly what it is that makes “Back to the Future” so great but it just is. Something I’ve always thought that proves just how great the films story is, part of the plot is a borderline incestuous relationship between Marty and his young mother and people don’t seem to mind that! If anything should put people off the film it’s that, if the film didn’t have something special then that plot element almost certianly would have brought the franchsie to an end right there and then. The Doc and Marty characters have become iconic, along with their Delorean time mochine. Some people won;t a four chapter more than anything, personally I’m in two minds about that. Part of me would love to see Doc & Marty on a brand new adventure but another part doesn’t want to risk the franchise being messed up and would rather leave it as it is.

Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn (1987)

I’m sure no horror fan is surprised to see this movie on the list. Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are very well known figures in the horror community. This movie was pretty much their big break that made them as well known as they are now. Some may say “Oh it’s just the same as the original.” and yes to a certain point it is the same but that was due to some legal issues over film rights blah blah blah look it up. Anyway I don’t think many movies get the mix of horror and comedy correct but “Evil Dead 2” does in my opinion. They found a way to make it slapstick but still scary and not just silly. While other franchise installments did a good job, I think this one did it best.

Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Do I really need to say much about this one? I love the MCU as almost all geeks do and Endgame was the culmination of eleven years of laughs, fights and tears. There’s no much I can actually say without giving away spoilers, so I’ll keep this entry short. If you love comic books and haven’t watched the MCU movies yet… Then you’ve clearly been kidnapped and held hostage in a cave. (Anyone who gets that reference, you’re my new friend.)

Shaun of the Dead (2004)

A Zombie movie on this list! Oh what a shocker that is. As with “Evil Dead 2” I think this is another horror-comedy that gets it right. It seems an unlikely film to become as popular as it has, it’s a british film made on a not so big budget but hey people like it and I’m one of them. The first in the Cornetto trilogy, you can tell a lot of talented and creative minds went into making it. It uses the classic Romero Zombies in great ways to show off their creepy and scary potential. It really shows how the great british public would probably react, if they opened their bedroom curtains to find the start of the Zombie apocalypse. Some bits may seems strange to any non-brits but chances are they’ll enjoy the overall charm of the film.

The Mummy (1999)

There might be some nostalgia fueling my affection for this film but even without that, it’s still a good film in my eyes. Feel free to disagree with my but this is my list, go make your own LOL. This film has a special position in my house, as not only is it in my top ten favourite movies but it’s also my mothers favourite film without a doubt. Shes seen it hundreds of times but everytime it’s on TV she’ll watch it without fail, same goes for it’s sequel. The effects are still decent quality, even after all this time, which I think says something. The Mummy himself (Before fully regenerated) is quite the achievement in early CGI, as you do feel like he’s really there with the actors in the scenes. I’m sure some people prefer the classic Mummy movie and that’s fine, that movie is great too but I think this one is not to be underestimated.

From Dusk till Dawn (1996)

This is a movie that has become a cult favourite over time, obviously one of my favourites too since it’s on this list. This one in theory shouldn’t work, it’s like two completely different movies with pushed together but somehow it works. At first it’s a film about two criminals on the run, taking a family hostage in order to flee the country. Then all of a sudden, about half way through…VAMPIRES! It comes out of nowhere and with no warning. As I said, that shouldn’t work but as it goes sometimes things that shouldn’t go together work the best. As a Vampire movie I like it because it doesn’t dull down the Vampires, they aren’t misunderstood or cursed victims oh no. They are blood thirsty monsters as Vampires should be, as soon as they show up there’s a gruesome bloodbath and it’s brilliant. Another odd thing about this movie is that there isn’t really a protagonist, the main character (Played by George Clooney) is a wanted criminal, who definately is not a good guy. However due to Clooney’s natural charisma, you can’t help but root for him. I first watched this movie a long time ago and it’s always stuck in my mind. In particular Salma Hayek’s snake dance scene, which for an adolescent boy made a big impression. (Anyone who’s watched that scene will understand.)

30 Days of Night (2007)

Another Vampire movie that portrays Vampires the right way, blood thirsty killing machines. This is a movie based on a comic book series of the same name. It’s general plot is a small town in Alaska is attacked by a group of Vampires during a thirty day period when the town is without light from the Sun (Which is a real thing by the way.) The only negative I’d say about this movie, is that it does seem to drag on at times. There are lengthy scenes of the characters sitting in silence and whispering to each other. I makes sense in the film but if you don’t have much patience, you might find it a bit boring. The good points of it though are the Vampires are well thought out and actually scary, they even have their own language in the movie. That’s all I can really say about this one, if you like Vampire movies give it a try.

Night of the Living Dead (1990)

To finish off the list is the colour remake of George A Romero’s classic “Night of the Living Dead”. I know some people hate me already for putting the remake above the original but before you try to hang me, hear me out. I’m a big Zombie fan, I love the original I truly do but in the end it’s all down to personal preference and I personally prefer the remake. Both movies are great but anyone will have to admit the remake is more eventful and action packed than the original. The original can be a little slow at times while the remake goes on at a steady pace. Another improvement is the character Barbara, you know “They’re coming to get you Barbara.” In the original she’s pretty much useless, all she does is sit on the couch looking like she’s in a trance the whole time. In the remake however, while she does start out that way, over time she gains confidence and courage and by the end becomes a hero. There are faults as with any film of course, some of the practial effects haven’t aged well at all, two moments in particular stand out to me. I’m sure at the time they were acceptable but now they look absolutely terrible, a three year old could tell they were fake. Please give the movie a watch, if you’re a Zombie fan I’m sure they’ll enjoy it but keep a look out for those two moments I mentioned, see if you can spot them.

Living with a Disability

In my last post, I mentioned that I have a condition. I just thought that required more detail so here it is, my experience with a disability.

Well first of all, as said in my last post my condition is called “Optic Nerve Atrophy”. Feel free to Google it for yourself but here’s a little information. (ONA) causes damage or degeneration to the Optic Nerve at the back of the eye. In case you don’t know, the Optic Nerve carrys information from the eye to the brain. Since my Optic Nerve is impefect, light enters my eye but when it gets to the Optic Nerve the signal gets scrambled. So when the signal gets to my brain, it comes out blurry, fuzzy or out of focus. I first noticed something wrong around April 2016 but I wasn’t diagnosed until October 2016. That was a long six months believe me, I had all sorts of tests, bloods tests, MRI, ECG. Now the first question people always ask me is “What do you see?”, it’s hard to explain it to someone who can’t see as I do but I tell them “You know when you watch a video online and it’s low quality and unclear? Well that’s what it’s like.”

My vision isn’t bad enough that I need a walking stick or guide dog (Although both those things have been offered to me). I can get around no problem in places I know well, like my own home or my local shops. The two biggest problems are firstly, since I see things slightly blurry, plus the further away something is the worse it looks. If I’m in a unfamiliar place, I proably won’t be able to read signs that tell you where you are or where to go. I have been in that situation alone a couple times and let me tell you, it might not sound that bad but when you’re on your own and unsure what to do, it can get quite scary. The next thing is that because my vision isn’t the best, as a side effect of that, my balance is quite bad too. I regularly wobble a bit as I walk but sometimes I’ll just randomly stumble while standing still. It’s a big pain in the arse but hey nothing I can do about it.

I have been given some visual aids but I try to get by without them as much as possible. I’ve also adjusted my computer so I can see and use it better, since the condition isn’t well researched there’s next to no treatment for it. Hopefully in the future more research will be done and treatments created. However even if there are, in my case it’s genetic, so I’m probably stuck with it. A small silver lining though is that I’ve been told that only women can pass on the condition, so if I’m lucky enough to have kids one day, I shouldn’t give it to them.

Well there you go, there’s probably more I could tell you but I think I’ll leave it there. If you liked this post or found it helpful, please leave a like and/or comment. If anyone else out there has the same condition or in fact any condition and want to chat, please leave a comment and I’ll try to get in touch with you.

Life of an Introvert (Mental Health)

Quick warning, this post will at times be quite depressing, I talk openly about my introvert nature and the mental health issues I’ve had in my life. If you don’t deal well with that stuff, please click away now, if you’re still here glad to have you and hopefully my words can help you out in some form.

I would say almost right from the start my growth as a person was stunted. From a very early age, I struggled to progress at the same rate as the other kids, I was bullied pretty much all through school. I understand why, my apperance made me an easy target for bullies (Ginger hair, glasses, quite thin). I might as well have had a target painted on my forehead, due to this I had and still do have a very low opinion of myself. My confidence was at rock bottom and fear of rejection and social interaction meant my friendship circle was very small. I’d say I’m a natural introvert but the years of being put down made me afraid to take opportunities that I should have. While everyone around me grew up normally, going on nights out with mates, have adventures, getting girlfriends, I sat alone at home with just the internet to keep me company, wishing I was out with them. Before I knew it school was finished and suddenly all my so-called friends vanished into thin air, they all went their own ways but they seemed to forget about me. I saw on social media, pictures of them out on the town together but not one of them ever invited me or so much as made a phone call (Even though all of them lived within twenty minutes walking distance from me).

The person I considered my best & oldest friend cut off all contact the moment our final exam finished. He’s an introvert like me but it did hurt knowing how much I really meant to him, what also hurt a lot was about five years ago. One of my old school friends got married and I was invited to the reception. I went along and admittedly had a good time. We danced, chatted, laughed and I left feeling quite good for a change. However that didn’t last long, I’d say around a couple weeks later I saw some wedding pictures on his Facebook page. One of them stood out, a picture of the entire friendship group together at the actual wedding ceremony (Everyone exceot me of course). Now that really did hurt, I was ok with not being at the actual wedding but knowing he invited everyone but me felt like a punch to the gut and knife in the back at once.

Anyway I found myself in my mid-twenties and my life was near exactly the same as it was when I was a teenager. Living at home with my parents, no real job, no social life, no friends and obviously no girlfriend. While I watched old friends/acquaintances move on with their lives, moving out, getting married, having kids of their own, living lives I could only dream of. All I really had was my family and then about three years ago things got worse. My vision started getting a bit blurry, at first I thought I just had to get my glasses prescription changed but soon found out it was something more than that. After months of tests we discovered I had a genetic condition called “Optic Nerve Atrophy”, It affected my vision, the best way to decribe it is like I’m watching a low quality video all the time. With my impaired vision, I was no longer allowed to drive, which meant my already small life got even smaller.

Feeling down and useless, I tried to think of something I could still do even with my condition. I decided to write a book, at first it was simply for a sense of accomplishment, to be able to say “Look I did that all by myself!”. I waited a while before telling my family about it, after they read it they encouraged me to try and get it published. To cut a long story short, I’ve now written two books and am currently writing a third. This blog is my latest thing, something that can with some luck help me progress with my life. I know there are a lot of people who feel like me out there but due to our fear, sadness and loneliness, it’s difficult for us to reach out and say hello. If you feel like me, please feel free to leave a comment and get in touch. I know it’s scary to take a chance but please, even if just this once, just say hello. I’d love to talk to you and who knows what opportunities that could open and I won;t make the mistake of letting them pass me by again.

Thanks for listening.

My Top 5 Favourite TV Shows

Hello dear readers. As you probably can tell, this is a list of my top five TV shows of all time. You may find that they tend to follow a certain pattern in genre but hey that’s my taste in TV. I’d recommend these shows to anyone, if you want a good night in, settle down with a cup of tea, a snack and dive into any of them.

Doctor Who

Of course this had to be number one on this list, I’m British how could it not be? Nah it’s not just that, I’ve loved this show with all my heart since I was twelve years old. Like many people, I started watching when it returned to TV in 2005, although I already did know a good deal about the show. My uncle has been a fan of Doctor who since the very beginning in 1963, so he taught me a lot about the classic series. Unlike some people (Fake fans) I actually watch and enjoy the classic series, I hate when people watch the modern series and every time a nod to the past comes up, they have no clue what’s going on, I REALLY HATE THAT!!!

I can say with full confidence that I am a full on fanboy, I’ve met almost all the surviving Doctors and tons of companions. I’ve collected so much memorabilia I’ve nearly run of space (I even have my own full size Dalek…Yeah I know you’re jealous). What I don’t know about the show isn’t worth knowing. I was at the special 50th anniversary event and I fully plan on being there at the 100th anniversary, who knows maybe I’ll even see some of you there.

The Walking Dead

This one is a close second place, I’ve loved the Zombie genre almost all my life. My parents let me watch whatever films I wanted when I was growing up, that might not have been the best idea but hey it did me no harm (Unless you count my muderous urges, I’m only joking… Or am I?). Anyway as much as I enjoy the many Zombie movies out there, in particular the work of the iconic George A Romero (Who I was lucky enough to briefly meet) I did sometimes get frustrated with the lack of answers. How did the Zombie apocalypse start? What happens to the characters after the end credits? What’s happening in other parts of the world?

However with The Walking Dead, they actually answer most of these questions (Not all). You get to see the characters journey long term and get to explore the world further than a movie would allow. Of course the show isn’t perfect, they’ve made choices that I haven’t liked (Cough! Carl’s death cough!) but overall is definately high quality in both story telling, acting talent and special effects. It stands out in the Zombie genre as something special, so much so that it’s brached out into a TV & movie universe. Thanks to Walker Stalker Con, I’ve met many memeber of the cast and they genuinely seem happy to be part of the show. It’s been around for almost ten years now and if it can keep up it’s quality, I see no reason why it can’t keep going for many years more.

Lucifer

This one is quite a new addition to this list but I think it deserves it’s place. I’m an athiest myself but I’ve always thought religious theology made a great story (In fact my novel series is based around it). The characters it gives you are very interested and a lot can be done with them. Lucifer I think perfectly mixes the crime drama and supernatural elements. Even though each episode is different, it finds a way to tie them together with the main characters and their relationships. It dares to ask the questions, what is good and what is evil? Are some people inherently bad or can anyone be redeemed?. I love diving into those big questions and exploring them, which this show does in interesting ways. Plus they’re able to throw in a good amount of comedic moments to make the audience laugh, which I’m sure is thanks to the writers and comedic talent of the actors. If you like supernatural stories that don’t get overcomplicated, then this would be for you.

The Strain

The horro genre is absolutely my favourite, some people say it’s bad for people and gives them nightmares. I don’t think I’ve ever had a nightmare from a show or movie I’ve watched, simply because I know the difference between fantasy and reality. The main reason this show is on my top five list is because it shows Vampires as they are meant to be shown… As brutal evil monster. I hate when TV & Movies take the most badass creatures and dilute them so much you barely recognise them anymore. Even worse is than that is monsters are romanticized, creatures such as Mummies, Werewolves, Zombies etc… they were always meant ot be the stuff of nightmares. They were supposed to be evil monsters that scare people, so that’s the way they should stay. The Vampires or Strigoi in this show are exactly that and nothing more, plus the biologically gruesome way they are depicted is amazing. These are true Vampires (No sparkly rubblish), hungry, blood thirsty beasts that want nothing more to feed on you. If you’re a fan of real Vampires or gore in general, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this show.

The Twilight Zone

This had to be on this list, of course I’m talking about the iconic 1959 sci-fi series that became the inspiration for so many other great projects since. This is a show that is truly ahead of it’s time, Rod Serling was in my eyes a genius. The concepts the show had, some may seem perfectly normal now but at the time they were much less well known or simply thought of as nonsense. The effects may have suffered from age but the stories themselves have definately stood the test of time. The Twilight Zone is practically the holy grail for sci-fi fans everywhere, if you haven’t seen it WHY THE HELL NOT! I can’t really go into more detail without spoiling some of the episodes, so I’ll simply say if you watch it you will be surprised and not disappointed.

Get to know me

Hello people of the world! My name is Glyn Williams and welcome to my blog.

This is just a little info about me, so you can get an idea of what to expect from this blog. First of all I’m a geek and proud of it (well at least half the time), I’m pretty much the living stereotype of a geek. Simply picture that in your mind and you’re most likely picturing me.

My biggest interests include but not limietd to, Sci-fi, horror, mystery, thriller and drama (I like a good laugh now and then too). I started this blog to reach out to others like me, shy, isolated introverts who want nothing more than to connect with other people but haven’t the faintest clue of how to do it. I thought since the internet is practically the home of all introverts, if I put myself out there online maybe just maybe I’d find others of my kind that want to talk.

I like to be creative, I’m actually an author and screenwriter (as well as a blogger now). I’m the author of a supernatural drama series called “Nature vs. Nurture”. If you enjoy the topics listed above, I’m sure it’ll be right up your street. Besides that, I’ve also written a short story that next year (2020) will be adapted into a short film by a production company in my area that I’ve worked with in the past.

I’ve struggled with many issuses for as long as I can remember, I’ve always been shy and struggled with self confidence. For most of my life I thought I was worthless and would never go anywhere or achieve anything. As tends to happen to people like me, I was bullied from a young age and I suppose when people beat you down enough times, you lose the will to get back up again and just accept it. Deep down all I want is what so many people take for granted, friends, social life, relationships. I have been blessed with family members who have been very supportive and I know love me very much (I know not everyone has that) but as much as it scares me, I want to move forward and build a life of my own.

In closing, this blog will feature all things nerdy, what I love to think about and discuss the most. Keep watch for many things such as top ten lists, rants, discussions, TV & movie reviews and more. If you’re reading this and you’re like me, I just want you to know this is a safe space for you. I know how you feel, reaching out is scary and it’s so much easier not too but please do. I’d love to chat about anything and everything, plus who knows? Taking that one little step could start a chain of events that changes your life for the better as well as mine.

So thank you for visiting my blog and listening to me ramble on. I hope you enjoy what you find here, I can’t think of a snappy way to end this, so I’ll take a word from the one and only legend himself… EXCELSIOR!
